Saturday White Wonderland

Hello my friends!
This is what we've been watching out the window most of the day.  Pretty isn't it?
When it turned to a light snow.  Hubby and I went outside to clear the sidewalks and driveway.
Dennis had a great time with his new toy.  He went up and down the street clearing everyone's sidewalks.  It works like a dream and goes forward and backward with six forward speeds.  I'll be jogging behind this thing when I'm the one clearing the snow.  :-)
The Wonderful Wallaby sweaters were hit and fit very well.  Don't mind the messy kitchen.  I was busy playing with my grandbabies and did only what I needed to in the kitchen.  There are more important things than a perfect house aren't there?  By the way, I didn't leave the milk jug out by accident, it was empty and just hadn't been taken out to the trash yet.
This was my gift from Jamie & the kids.  I've read some of it, and the writing and photography are wonderful.  I love reading about the pioneer days and the settling of the west.  This book has interviews with people who actually attended the one room schools.  The stories I've read so far are fascinating.
I finished the wristwarmers and I must admit, when it's as cold as it is here right now, I much prefer mittens.  My fingers get COLD wearing these.  Although they are very comfortable.
I have been busy.  Three baby blankets are in process.  We have new babies coming at church and I like to make these together in stages.  It's easier to remember the pattern.
The kids left yesterday.  Kyleigh had a birthday party today and I'm glad they didn't stay and have to drive over three mountain passes in the storm we've had.

We were able to face-time with both Alex and Mandy's family while they were here, so, in a modern technological way, we were all able to be together for Christmas.

Dennis and I are going to snuggle in tonight. I'll be crocheting and we'll watch some HGTV.

I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying the weekend.

Blessings,

Betsy

  1. Merry two days after Christmas to you! Love the Wallaby sweaters, wrist-warmers and baby blankets! You are SO talented:) Love all the snow too--hoping we get some soon. The MT book sounds like a delightful read. My grandma taught in a one room school in SD and I have some old pictures of her time there. I absolutely love history!

    PS: Love your new 'toy'!

  9. Beautiful news in every way, Betsy! We just had some hail...enough to make it look like a little snow, but we may not get any snow that they thought we might tonight. Your book sounds very interesting. My stack of "want to read," grows and grows :-) We had a modern family together Christmas by talking to my NY son and his family on the phone. Hoping you have a happy week! xx

  11. dear Betsy love your previous posts just did some catching up... well done on the jumpers being a hit !!!
... and also my father taught in a two "one teacher" or one-roomed schools when I was child. Although at last one it was just before I went to school, however my brother went .. my sister (3) and I (4) did line up with the school kids to get our mugs of milk our mother made up for us all in big billy she made it like vanilla.. yummo still remember it ..
We still have one teacher schools (as we call them) although that was in 50's. Dad now retired for many years, but worked his way up to a high school principal by doing degree by correspondence. He was very clever, I couldn't imagine doing that.
Much love and every blessing of the LORD for 2015, my dear should the LORD tarry. Shaz in Oz.x

  12. The sweaters turns out awesome. They looks so happy and adorable in their new sweaters. The snow is pretty, but goodness...where is Spring? I am not a snow/cold lover....so I am always wanting it to be hotter than it ever is during winter. :) The baby blankets are so cute. I like doing blankets they way you do, going in steps all at the same time...it really does seem to make it go faster. So wonderful that you all got to be together, even if it were just on the screen, love knows no boundaries...it always finds a way! :) Wishing you a most Happy New Year sweet friend. Blessings to you and yours always. :)

  13. The sweaters are darling! You are such a good knitter. Love the snow but yes you need to cover your fingertips....they freeze easily! When you get a minute could you tell us a little bit more about those baby blankets? I couldn't tell the size and it looks very interesting. That book is awesome looking. I love books about real pioneers or historical rural living. The snow, of course, is beautiful and I miss living in the North so much. Happy New Year!

  15. Hi Betsy, we have had snow too. Just a day late for a White Christmas! Glad you had a lovely Christmas.
A lot of on line friends and followers of Vanessa were very sad to hear of her death and agreed to mark it with a photo, of a piece of crafting, at the time of her funeral yesterday. It started a few of us "chatting" and we decided we want to do something to raise money for a mental health charity in her memory. Early stages but it will be a good thing if something positive can come from something so tragic.
Wishing you and yours a healthy and happy new year.
    Carol xx

  16. Snow is my favorite. :) I have the same problem with fingerless mitts. I think they are SO cute, but my fingers just FREEZE! Maybe I should only think of them as autumn wear??? Your new book looks wonderful! I'm so glad you had a sweet Christmas. Happy, Happy New Year! *hugs*

  17. Cold weather and I do not get along at all. I would need more than mittens to stay warm. As it is, it's only in the 40s here at night and I am wearing layered pajamas and then layer the bed with blankets. Of course, we live in concrete buildings with no heat so it does feel a whole lot colder. Glad to hear you had a lovely family holiday, up close and personal and virtual. :) Wishing you and yours all the best for the new year. Tammy
